About the Department:

The department of is well established and offering a variety of courses in the field of Food Science and Nutrition both at UG and PG level.  The courses are designed to meet the changing requirements of the society and food industry.

Departmental Objectives:

To train the students in various fields of -
Dietetics, Preventive and theraputic  nutrition, Sports nutrition, Food processing, Food safety and quality control and Food product development.

Research in the department:

  1. Diet Surveys.
  2. New Food Product Development.
  3. Food quality analysis and Storage studies.
  4. Food Industry oriented problems are taken up by the students as projects.

Outreach Activities:

The department organises various co curricular activities for the community, students and staff.

  1. The department has conducted various workshops, training programs for ICDS, Anganwadi workers, Pathway and Kitchen Mothers.
  2. Organized Nutrition Education lectures for school children and parents, senior citizens.
  3. Planned  nutritious recipes for different groups and organizations.
  4. Organized exhibitions, demonstrations, and diet surveys.
  5. Students participated in the project on “Operation Eyesight Universal” along with Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital. 

Departmental Activities:

  1. Nutrition Week.
  2. Breast Feeding Week.
  3. World Food Day.
  4. Cookery Competitions.
  5. Personality Development workshops for students.

The department is housing the local chapters and organises various activities of  -

  1.  Indian Dietetics Association (IDA),  Pune Chapter.
  2. Association of Food Scientists and Technologists, (AFST), Pune Chapter.
